Raised by a mother who was a nun before marriage and a father who is part Mayflower pioneer and part Native American, Onani and her 5 siblings were taught the power of silent observation to explore both the inner, personal world and the outdoor, natural world. They were encouraged to notice, wonder and learn about the many layers of the natural rhythm of change and growth.
Onani expanded her interest in human potential while teaching a wide range of children – abused and neglected, gifted and talented, urban, rural, diverse races and cultures, from poverty and affluence. Onani worked with insightful teachers who believed in the power of the human spirit to overcome difficulty.
Onani lived with spiritual masters in a variety of secluded, austere environments. One of her most influential teachers was Grandmother Keewaydinoquay, one of the last traditionally trained medicine women of the Great Lakes. Onani lived with Kee for months at a time on a wilderness island in Lake Michigan for several years. With no running water or electricity, Onani learned the uses of the medicinal plants, ceremonies, songs, stories and the Ojibway gifts of knowledge which value human creativity as an important contribution to the perfection of nature.
Onani has studied yoga and meditation with Yogi Amrit Desai since the early 1980’s. Yogi Desai, founder of Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, teaches how to energetically transform challenges into opportunities to awaken consciousness, allowing for the natural state of tranquility to emerge amidst the ever-changing flow of life.
Later in life, Onani investigated principles of business. As an at-home mother, Onani taught herself to trade on the stock market. She immediately noticed the same patterns of human nature applying to investing. By furthering her business education, she saw the importance of integrating business principles of innovation, prosperity, personal freedom and risk taking into the ancient spiritual tenets of appreciation, acceptance of the unknown, inner calm and service to others.
Onani has been a student of many other profound teachers, including Dr. Elmer and Alyce Green, pioneers of the science of consciousness, Drs. Caroline Myss and Norm Shealy, of the Science and Intuition Institute, Justine McDevitt, author and mentor, Bhante Seelagawesi Thero of the Nissarana Monastery in Sri Lanka, Raymond Ruka, Maori priest from New Zealand and Marshall Goldsmith, corporate America’s preeminent executive coach.
In addition, Onani is a trained mediator, a long time participant and past coordinator for the Council Grove Conference on Consciousness, member of the Sandler Sales Institute President’s Club, certified IBD stock market investor and mother to 4 wonderful, grown-up kids.
Onani completed her ThD, doctorate of theology and energy medicine through Holos University Graduate Seminary.
